New faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.


Savannah E. Duckworth, M.D.

Dr. Savannah E. Duckworth, a recent internal medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After receiving her B.S. in biological sciences summa cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2010, Duckworth earned her M.D. in 2014 at UMMC, where she has an internal medicine residency from 2014-17.

An Evers Society M3 and M4 Resident of the Year and the 2016 Medicine Resident of the Year at the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Duckworth is an active member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the Mississippi State Medical Association. A member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 2017. An ACP resident council member and secretary, she has given presentations at three ACP meetings.


Ameze Ero, M.D.

Dr. Ameze Ero, a recent child neurology fellow at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.

After receiving her B.S. in biology from the University of Mississippi in 2007, Ero earned her M.D. in 2011 at UMMC, where she had a pediatric residency from 2011-14 and a child neurology fellowship from 2014-17.

The author of an article in the Journal of Pediatrics, “Pemphigus Foliaceus in an Adolescent,” Ero has given Pediatric and Rehabilitation Grand Rounds presentations at UMMC. An active member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Neurology, Ero’s abstract, “Opisthotonus in a Child with Suspected Tubercular Meningitis,” was accepted for case presentation at the 2017 Southern Pediatric Neurology Society meeting in New Orleans.


Nicholas E. Hoda, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Nicholas E. Hoda, a recent emergency medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of emergency medicine and assistant director of the ultrasound program.

After receiving his B.A. in 2000 and his M.S. in 2003 in psychology at Mississippi State University, Hoda completed a pediatric psychology externship from 2004-05 at the A. I. duPont Hospital for Children and the Wilmington Hospital First State School in Delaware, and then a pre-doctoral internship in pediatric psychology from 2005-06 at Nationwide Columbus Children’s Hospital in Ohio; in so doing, he completed his Ph.D. in psychology from Mississippi State. After completing the medical school prerequisite curriculum at Mississippi College, Hoda earned his M.D. at UMMC in 2013. He trained as an emergency medicine resident at UMMC from 2013-17.

The author or coauthor of six articles in peer-reviewed journals, Hoda has given seven emergency medicine grand rounds presentations. His interests include ultrasound applications in the ER and resident education.
